Back in the 80's and early 90's Kevin was an active member of the "gay" community of south Minneapolis. He was among that group of Dignity members that Archbishop Roach (Archdiocese of St. Paul/Mpls) kicked out of the University of MN Newman Center in '87. Kevin then attended a few meetings of Lutheran’s Concerned and marched in several "Pride" parades in Minneapolis and once in New York. (Kevin said he noticed that there always seemed to be more people in the parade than actually watching it.)
As a "gay activist" Kevin fought for many causes including a radical redefinition of marriage called “gay marriage.” Well, thanks in no small part to Outpost – the local chapter of Exodus – and Father John Harvey's Courage group, Kevin left that whole lifestyle by the mid 90’s. With the wonderful help of Bishop John LeVoir (then pastor of Holy Trinity in South Saint Paul) Kevin worked with Archbishop Flynn in getting a Courage group formed in the St. Paul/Minneapolis archdiocese! Kevin is now glad he didn't redefine marriage because he married “the most beautiful woman in the world” in 1998 (and they now have three children ages 11, 10, 8).
Kevin then toured the state (MN Family Institute, KKMS, Knights of Columbus) and the country (Boston College, Catholic Medical Assoc, EWTN) with his talk called God's Recruit. The subject of that talk was about his experiences, explaining some of the tactics he used as an activist and how the Holy Spirit eventually helped him out of the lifestyle.
Now, through PMAForum, Kevin is meeting with people all over Minnesota to explain the vital need to pass the marriage amendment now “or we’ll never have another chance!” He adds, “Even people who plan on voting for the amendment need to know why they are, because they need to defend that vote with those who argue 'This amendment is putting discrimination into the constitution' and 'It’s a violation of my individual rights.'" Kevin will also explain how to answer “How does my ‘gay marriage’ change your marriage?”
